Chinese Drywall - What is it good for?

Years ago there was a song called "War" by Edwin Starr saying "War... Huh... Yeah! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!" For some reason that song reminds me of the recent problems involved with tainted Chinese drywall.

What is the problem?

The problem with tainted Chinese drywall its destructive ability to eat away the copper in a house along with health related problems such as respiratory irritation, headaches, eye irritation, nose bleeds, urinary infections, stiffing.
Values of houses with tainted drywall can be greatly decrease.

What is Tainted Chinese Drywall?

Tainted Chinese drywall contains higher levels of strontium sulfide, iron sulfide and calcium oxide.

When was Tainted Chinese drywall used?

2001 to 2008 are the known years for contractors using Tainted Chinese drywall with highest years being between 2004, 2005, and 2006.

How do you know if your home has Tainted Chinese drywall?

A B Home Inspections recommends the following guidelines:
Is there a Rotten Egg, fireworks, or sulfur smell?
What about the labels on the drywalls? A B Home Inspections normally will find a  "Made in China" or "Made in USA" label in the attic or an unfinished wall.
How is the copper in the house? - Tainted Chinese drywall will turn the copper in a house black along with corrosion or black soot on the electrical wiring, HVAC parts, Co axle wiring.
Any presence of soot and corrosion noticed on the copper, silver, and chrome parts in the house (normally found in bathrooms and kitchens).
Have the HVAC units been replaced? A B Home Inspections have seen newer houses 3 to 4 years with newer HVAC units.
What about your neighbors? A B Home Inspections have noticed that when we find one house with tainted Chinese drywall there are normally the whole street, sector, or neighbor effected with the problem.
Have the house tested. A B Home inspections recommends a quick 2 hour test on 4 to 6 different areas on the house to verify if tainted Chinese drywall might be present. If the test comes back positive, A B Home Inspections recommends sending samples to a lab for a more detail test.

Remediation of tainted Chinese drywall:

Basicly stripping the house down. All the drywall should be removed from the house, all copper wiring and tubing removed along with replacement of appliances. An estimated period of several months to allow the house to degas itself.
